• CHANGAN Automobile officially expands its first overseas facility in Rayong, Thailand, with 8.8 billion Thai Baht investment for the first phase. The facility will include painting, assembly, engine assembly, and battery assembly units with up to 100,000 vehicle production capacity per year, set to commence in early 2025.
• In phase 2, CHANGAN's total investment is projected to reach up to 20 billion Thai baht, allocated for the establishment of a new energy vehicle production facility in the future, aiming to achieve a yearly production capacity of 200,000 vehicles. This facility will cater to both the entire ASEAN region and the global right-hand drive market.
   

Rayong, 9 November 2023 – CHANGAN Thailand celebrated a significant milestone with the groundbreaking ceremony of the CHANGAN Thailand Manufacturing Base in Rayong on 8 November 2023. This event marks a major step in CHANGAN Automobile's global expansion strategy, identifying Thailand as its primary overseas production hub and solidifying Thailand's role as the automotive manufacturing nucleus in Southeast Asia.

The ceremony was graced by distinguished representatives from the public and private sectors, including Mr. Narit Therdsteerasukdi, Secretary General of the Board of Investment (BOI); Ms. Zhang Xiaoxiao, Economic and Commercial Office, Embassy of People's Republic of China in the Kingdom of Thailand; Mr. Wang Hui, Vice President of Changan Automobile; Mr. Shen Xinghua, MD of Changan Auto Southeast Asia Co., Ltd., and MD of CHANGAN Auto Sales (Thailand) Co. Ltd.; Mr. Suraphong Chaijant, Senior Consultant and Security Director of China Energy Engineering Corporation Limited (CEEC); Mr. Sakon Korakot, Pluak Daeng Chief District Officer, Rayong Province; Mr. Pajongwit Pongsivapai, Chief Operating Officer of WHA Industrial Development Public Company; Police Colonel Chaipong Sangpongchai, Superintendent of Pluak Daeng Provincial Police Station; and Mr. Attapon Jirawatjanya, Deputy Governor of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, along with guests, partners, media, and the CHANGAN Automobile family

In his opening statement, Mr. Wang Hui highlighted the significance of this development: “Today signifies a new chapter in CHANGAN Automobile's international presence, and we are thrilled to commence the construction of the CHANGAN Thailand Manufacturing Facility. This will not only serve as our base here in Thailand but also stands as a testament to our commitment to 'leading automotive civilization and enhancing the quality of human life.’ Our collaboration with esteemed partners reflects a joint effort to position Thailand as a regional hub for electric vehicles and reinforces the friendly relations between China and Thailand.”

In alignment with Thailand’s swift transition toward electric vehicle (EV) adoption, CHANGAN Automobile has committed 8.8 billion Thai baht in the first phase of its advanced production facility's construction in Rayong. Including the planned second phase, the cumulative investment by CHANGAN is projected to reach 20 billion Thai baht. The CHANGAN Thailand Manufacturing Facility, occupying about 600 acres, will feature painting, assembly, engine assembly, and battery assembly units, alongside necessary supporting facilities. The plant's first-phase design anticipates producing up to 100,000 vehicles annually, with operations expected to begin in early 2025. Subsequently, the second phase will escalate the total production capacity to 200,000 vehicles annually, targeting the entire ASEAN market and the global right-hand drive market.

The groundbreaking event not only represents a pivotal leap in CHANGAN’s global strategy but also heralds a new era of automotive innovation and economic growth for Thailand.
